“Candi, Cody and Caity” produced in 2005 by Chris Verene in his hometown of Galesburg, Illinois is a picture that illustrates emotions such as, happiness, tenderness and warmth only if perceived alone with out the text. Once we read the text the image as a whole changes completely, altering our perception, emotion and ideology of the image, making us think of many more scenarios that could be possible during that frozen frame by itself.
This picture shows a family (mom, daughter and son) being portrait on a sunny day that appears to be during the golden hour when the sun is hiding and the children come out to take opportunity to play the last minutes before it gets dark. The color pallet is warmth and the colors tend to match with their environment such as, the girl’s clothes with the house in the background colors and the boy’s shirt with the grass as same as the mom’s shirt with the bike and her hair with the yellow shining sun rays.
The composition is quite catchy to the eye since it is not geometrically but instead the photographer placed the background house towards the right so he could have the natural sunlight coming in through the top right portion of the image. I believe is also evident that he used a flash whose reflection can be seen on the back tire of the bicycle as same as the boy’s back, since they were actually posing against the light he probably needed to use this in order to show more detail in the subjects.
I think the photograph complement more of Chris Verene’s work because he is photographing images and adding captions to it that completely make us think differently about what we see, thus making us pay more attention into the point that he is trying to convey, such as issues that are relevant to his hometown of Galesburg. I feel that he wants to get a certain message across that even though he portrays his American community in such a way, he breaks the perception that we first get and makes us think about what the issues that might be happening there are by adding captions into them
Indigo Natural Dye (Powder) Picture Attempt
Attempt on photographing this natural dye but in order to make it more interesting tried creating a pyramid shape out of it but still had to work cleaning the edges out of it, even though i think I erased too much on the bottom port of it. Should I have not soft-erased the bottom too much and instead use another tool maybe the blurb tool to soften it out a little more..? Not sure, any suggestions let me know :) Cris-
Assignment 2 - Self Portraits
Hello blog, quite simply I enjoy to the fullest playing handball, it is not an official sport but is the sport that I grew up playing with in my community. I went to the this school and grew up playing handball during recess. I'm a very funny guy and have a strong attachment to my community and to the people around my neighborhood. It always make me really happy to play handball, it takes stress out of me and takes my mind of what ever is going on when I'm playing a handball match, even when I pass through a park and see people playing handball I get very happy and feel like playing aswell.
Writting Assignment #1
In order to find and try to decipher the silence, people make art from one another to portrait emotions, feelings, moods etc that can't be portrait with something that's not alive. Trying to talk about humans in a photo is more interesting in my opinion than talking about a landscape. You could see the expressions and their unique human characteristics giving you more hints as to how old he or she might been what they might do, they class, etc. In comparison to a landscape its a little less descriptive and narrower to the imagination, how ever in my opinion if a photograph of a person is well composed as in also portraying its setting and environment, then is a story.
An artist main intention is to try to get his thought across to his audience, to show what is going on, to portray it in a single frame. For this reason portrait artist might talk about what is happening with their subjects, or how the subject can relate to his main idea as an important part of it.
Photographic portraits are different than other mediums because now they can show more detail specially during this times in which technology it's so advance that the cameras that are made have very high megapixels which are perfect for portraits. One can even see a single hair strand in a picture which is something very awesome. On the other hand if using paint as a medium one will not be able to notice as much details as possible in comparison to digital photography. Also when using film or black and white pictures it gives the image a different feeling and sort of puts more focus into the subjects that the artist is trying to present.
